Well... yes, I'm familiar.
[ Hm. Hm! There's really no need to clarify anything more than that, he thinks. It certainly isn't his intention to kiss and tell. Even if it might be written all over his face. ]
I don't mind exactly, but... you're aware of what some of the items in there contain?
[ Not that he knows if it's everything or just the truffles, but he's not going to spring that on someone unawares. ]

Mishka meets the expression and its implications with a grin, amused, particularly, by the suggestion that he doesn't mind— knowing quite exactly what the oils might entail. )
Intimately, as happens. ( Flynn might not mind, but he does wonder if Yuri will... ) But I've enjoyed your company thus far, and I find myself quite comfortable with you. I can only hope you feel the same, if only somewhat?
( Honestly, his impression of Flynn is that he's genuinely a nice guy, and his application was not particularly an understatement or overstatement in most regards. He's quite like the idea of fairytale knighthood sold over in Charneult, if only in general demeanor.
Really, he shouldn't tease him. He might as well be pretty happy with that guy who likes him. But such is Mishka's nature; he sees a good thing, and he wants to see where its limits lie. )

You're very easy to talk to. Many people from Terca Lumireis would feel at least a little awkward around a knight.
[ Flynn finally abandons his patrolling around the room to come sit on the side of the bed closer to Mishka's chair, the more easy to speak properly with him. ]
There's just something I'm still wondering. What made you place that bid? I doubt you wanted to try my cooking that urgently.

He toys with offering him half an answer, as he tends to. Hmm. )
... Of every application written, yours was the most grounded, and the one that seemed the most like a person people might grow fond of. I have never had much positive relation with laws nor heroes, so I wondered if even I could come to like you, too.
( He grins, a little. "One of my best qualities is that I'm me and you'll love it." )
Your friend had the right of it, in the end.

[ Yuri's application... of course. Flynn gives a slightly embarrassed laugh and glances down at his knees again. He's not sure he wishes he could forget the wording, but it's definitely a little flustering still. Especially that someone had taken it without the mild dose of sarcasm that must have been intended. ]
To be honest, Yuri and I never had much of one either. The Imperial Knights traditionally served the interests of nobility. But... I hope to do better as a knight than whatever you may be acquainted with in your world.

(Especially since Yuri intended to win him, and seemed a little put out that he didn't.) )
Is that why there are those who are awkward around you? ( Protecting interests of nobility... Yeah, sounds about right. ) Your position sounds more akin to the Scarlet Watch in my home. They were the law that protected the nobility, at the cost of their lives.
But, some countries away... there are knights. In stories passed on through merchants, they protect nature and the downtrodden. I imagine that is closer to your goal?

[ So, of course they protected their own interests. It's a mark of how much better things have gotten that Flynn can sound matter-of-fact about it, without any of the old anger creeping back into his voice. He gives Mishka's observation a little nod as his expression softens. ]
You're right. Those with money could always hire the guilds for protection, and the nobles could rely on the knights to do the same. But I think a true knight serves all the people. Regardless of where they're from or how rich they are. That's why Yuri and I wanted to join the knights, when we were younger. We promised to make a world where everyone could smile.
[ ...And now he's talking about his best friend again while on a date. This isn't even the first time this has happened, but Flynn is at least conscientious enough to realize. ]
Ah, I'm sorry... I'm getting off track again.

( Protecting their own interests; nobles protecting nobles, or would-be nobles protecting nobles... Selfishness is what he expects in Ostoya, but it's intriguing to hear the forms it takes elsewhere.
Still, Flynn's self-conscious remark earns a laugh out of him. It's a noble goal, and a pretty fantasy, and his and Yuri's apparent affection for one another is charming, in that youthful, boyish way. Oh, to be young and in love. )
Not at all; I enjoy it. So rarely do people speak of a brighter future where I'm from, at times one can forget it can at all exist.
( Maybe. Maybe sometimes. It's hard to believe it can, but maybe it can, for some people, in some distant lands, like a fairytale.
Perhaps, if Flynn is the knight, and Yuri is his partner (... in crime), then Mishka is the dragon who's stolen Flynn away (... for the day). )
You will have to tell him about what a wonderful time we've had together so far, besides; it's certain to make him jealous.

[ Even from different worlds, there's a surprising amount in common. Which means that Flynn assumes things must be pretty dire where Mishka is from. Even at the toughest moments in the lower quarter, people still had enough spark to hope for better things for the future: clean water, or medicine, or enough of a windfall from something to buy fresh fruit. But there were places that had it much harder than his home.
Would prying about that also be off-track for what he should be doing as a date? Mishka derails him entirely before he can decide. Jealous? Yuri? He's struggling to picture it. ]
...I doubt that. But I'd be happy if it made him think a little more before he acts. Although I was planning on entering myself in the auction anyway. [ But Mishka might not have bid on whatever application Flynn wrote for himself... He shakes his head to dismiss the thought. ] But I will tell him you were an excellent date, if he asks. I've enjoyed your company.
[ And, reminded, he pats the bed beside him in invitation. In perfect innocence: ] Did you want to try those massages? I don't have any practice, but I'm not bad with my hands.
